UFC 129 Weigh-In Results

TORONTO -- In a taste of the madness that is to come on Saturday night, around 8,000 fans turned out to the Ricoh Coliseum just to watch the UFC 129 participants step on a scale. At UFC 129, there will be over 55,000 at Rogers Centre to watch two championship matches and the possible last fight of a legend.

Among the night's biggest fights, everyone made weight. Champion Georges St. Pierre came in comfortably at 169.5 pounds, but his challenger Jake Shields came in even lighter, 169 for the welterweight title bout.

"Don't blink," St. Pierre said afterward.

Featherweight champion Jose Aldo came in at 145 pounds for his title defense, but looked drained after sitting through the beginning of the first-ever collection of all seven UFC champions, an event that took place an hour before weigh-ins. No. 1 contender Mark Hominick was officially announced at 145.25, but officials later said he was 145. For title fights, there is no weight allowance given, though it was unclear about why he was not forced to weigh in with his shorts off to make the mandatory number.

Randy Couture got one of the day's biggest ovations as he possibly wraps up a legendary career. The fans chanted his name as he walked in, and Couture easily made weight, coming in at 203.5, while Lyoto Machida was 204.5.

The only fighter that missed weight was Ben Henderson, who was 156.5 for his lightweight bout with Mark Bocek. Henderson weighed in naked and missed. The UFC then lowered the audio level of the speakers, afraid that the vibration might be affecting the scale. It was of no use, and Henderson has one hour to lose one-half pound to make the fight official.

Next generation Wii controller to feature 6.2-inch display, turn living room into giant DS?

E3 is getting close, just two months away now. As such the next-gen Wii console rumors have heated to a boil. One of the most interesting bits of tattle originates from Kotaku. The gaming site's sources claim (with impressive specificity) that the new 8-button controller features a screen pushing a whopping 6.2 inches, two analog sticks, and a camera. The new Wii console (sometimes called the Wii 2, Wii HD, or simply "Project Cafe") is said to support the new controller in addition to Wii Remote-style controllers for backward compatibility with existing Wii games -- at the moment, however, it's not clear if that implies support for existing Wiimotes. But why the giant display? Here's Kotaku's take:
The 6.2-inch screen will receive data wirelessly from the Nintendo console and presents an array of options, from putting the player's inventory or map on the controller screen, to allowing players to combine it with the controller's camera to snap photos that could be imported into a game or even turning it into some sort of glorified viewfinder (we're unclear about whether the camera on the controller points at the player or can be outward-facing; we've heard both - maybe it swivels?).
In other words, you can think of the new contoller-plus-console combination as a modern Dreamcast system or "glorified mega-DS," as Kotaku puts it, where the TV is the top screen and the handheld controller is the lower touchscreen. If true then we'll likely hear the official first word at E3 which kicks off on June 7th.

Update: IGN has its own set of "sources" confirming many of these details. Could this be a Nintendo rumor that pans out, for once? We should know in just over a month.

'American Idol' Host Ryan Seacrest Prepping His Own Singing Show

New NBC show will reportedly be more 'artist competitive' than 'contestant competitive.'
By Gil Kaufman

For nearly a decade, Ryan Seacrest has been the steady, reliable face of "American Idol." He's weathered the storm of judge changes, questionable champions and a nonstop barrage of abuse from former lead panelist Simon Cowell.

During that time, Seacrest's media empire has blossomed to include not just multiple radio and TV hosting gigs, but producer credits on a slew of reality shows, like "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and its offshoots, that have minted their own stars. Now, Seacrest is reportedly embarking on his highest-profile TV move to date.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest is in early talks with NBC to helm a music-themed prime-time reality show. But unlike "Idol" or tormentor Cowell's upcoming "X Factor" (or new competition, NBC's "The Voice"), the new Ryan Seacrest Productions joint is reportedly not a traditional music competition show.

At press time, it was not clear if Seacrest would act as host of the new show, and because the plan is so early in its stages, the exact concept of the program is still being fleshed out. The Reporter said the only thing that's known is that Seacrest's new show would not directly compete with "Idol," which pays him $15 million a year and continues to be TV's undisputed ratings champ.

As for when this unnamed show might debut, the trade magazine pointed out that Seacrest's contract with "Idol" parent company CKX — which expires at the end of next season — doesn't allow him to appear on any other broadcast network until 2012.

The New York Post, which broke the story on Monday, quoted NBC's head of alternative programming as saying that the Seacrest concept is a "totally different kind of competition show" that would unfold in "self-contained episodes." He said it was "a bit more fun" and rather than being "contestant competitive," it is more "artist competitive."

In an interview with the Reporter in late March, Seacrest stressed, "It doesn't make a lot of sense to host a show competing with 'Idol.' ... I think it's possible [to be the face of another show in the future], but at this point I certainly have not even gone down that road because 'Idol' is in a great place, so I think we're just enjoying that and we want to focus on that."

In addition to his multiple shows starring the Kardashian sisters and ABC's "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution," the new music-themed NBC show would be one of 20 programs RSP has in development at the moment, many of them with NBCUniversal.

Russo Grateful For Hopkins' Foul-mouthed Advice

19 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news ?

Sir Anthony Hopkins helped co-star Rene Russo calm her nerves before a pivotal scene in new action film Thor by swearing at her.

The actress reveals the great Brit could tell she was far from confident about the scene in which she has to appear devastated after learning Hopkins' god-like character has banished her son, Thor, to earth - and he had some sage words for her.

She explains, "It was a real dramatic scene... and he could tell I was nervous, so he said, 'Come over here, sit down,' and he goes, 'A Franciscan monk once told me that the greatest prayer is F**k it! F**k it! F**k It! F**k it!'

"That's how great he is and I love him for that. So (for) the entire movie, he'd look at me before a scene and say, 'F**k it!'"

Lil B, Consequence And Pharoahe Monch Are Coming To 'Rap Fix Live'!

Consequence promises to 'address all the drama' surrounding him, Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com.

Things will be heating up on Wednesday's edition of MTV News "Rap Fix Live." Not only do we have an exclusive interview with one of the game's hottest up-and-comers, Lil B, we also have fire flame spitter Pharoahe Monch stopping by as well.

If that isn't enough, Consequence will be sitting on the couch with Sway, and he's ready to address all the drama surrounding him, Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music on "Rap Fix Live" Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Consequence broke onto the rap scene in 1996, appearing on a number of tracks with the iconic Queens rap group A Tribe Called Quest on their Beats, Rhymes and Life LP. From there, Cons continued to make his mark on the mixtape scene before linking up with Kanye West a few years later. Once 'Ye climbed up the rap ranks and developed his own label (G.O.O.D. Music), Consequence was added to the roster, as were other notable acts like Kid Cudi, Big Sean and Pusha T.

In 2007, the Queens MC released his debut album Don't Quit Your Day Job, but his follow-up LP Cons TV has been oft-delayed. As a result, a noticeable, but largely unspoken, rift has grown between Cons and Kanye. When it comes to the situation with West and G.O.O.D. Music, Consequence has been relatively quiet — until now.

That's not all: Pharoahe Monch, whose latest album, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), has received tons of critical acclaim, will come through to talk about his place in the rap game, while Lil B will give viewers insight into his controversial upcoming album I'm Gay.

Visit MTV.com Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET to watch Lil B, Consequence and Pharoahe Monch on "RapFix Live"!

Pakistan: Bin Laden Raid Must Not Serve As Precedent

Pakistan has indicated it was never asked and never gave permission for the U.S. assault that killed Osama bin Laden. The Pakistani leadership told the United States that the raid must not "serve as a future precedent," saying it would undermine international peace.

Thai-Cambodian Border Fighting Enters Third Day

Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged artillery fire Sunday in a third day of fighting that has killed 10 soldiers and uprooted thousands of villagers from their homes.

Officials from both sides said the clashes over disputed territory lasted about two hours Sunday morning. Cambodian military officials said the shooting resumed in the afternoon for several hours.

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon called for a cease-fire, but the prospects for peace appeared shaky, with the two sides disagreeing on what triggered the fighting and differing on how to negotiate the conflicting territorial claims underlying the crisis.

Thailand reported no new casualties, after four of its soldiers were killed and 17 wounded over the previous two days. Witnesses saw one Cambodian soldier and a Cambodian television journalist wounded Sunday. Colleagues said the journalist suffered a head wound but did not appear seriously hurt. Cambodia earlier reported the deaths of six soldiers.

The dispute between the neighbors involves small swaths of land along the border, with nationalistic politics fueling tensions. Clashes have erupted several times since 2008, when Cambodia's 11th-century Preah Vihear temple was given U.N. World Heritage status over Thai objections.

The current round of clashes is the first reported since February, when eight soldiers and civilians were killed near the Preah Vihear temple. The latest fighting is about 100 miles (160 kilometers) west of there.

Indonesia, a fellow member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, has tried to mediate, but its efforts have been stymied so far by Thailand's reluctance to allow Indonesian military observers in the area of dispute. Thailand insists the problem should be solved through bilateral talks with Cambodia, but Cambodia wants third-party mediation.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa is to visit Cambodia on Monday in another attempt to mediate the conflict, according to a ministry official who oversees Asian-Pacific affairs, Hamzah Thayeb.

"We are trying to do the best for the two sides to continue to resolve their differences through peaceful means," Thayeb said, adding that observers could only be sent if approved by both sides.

On Saturday, Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said his government is willing to accept Indonesia's assistance in solving the crisis, but he was awaiting approval from Thailand's defense ministry.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban has called on Cambodia and Thailand to implement an effective and verifiable cease-fire.

A U.N. statement late Saturday said Ban believes the dispute cannot be resolved by military means, so the two countries must engage in a serious dialogue to resolve the underlying problems.

Each side has accused the other of starting the latest fighting, which has mainly involved artillery duels at long range.

Thailand rejected accusations Saturday that it had used chemical weapons against Cambodian troops.

A Cambodian defense ministry statement charged that Thailand had fired 75- and 105-millimeter shells "loaded with poisonous gas" into Cambodian territory, but did not elaborate. Col. Suos Sothea, a Cambodian field commander, said separately that Thailand had used both cluster shells ? anti-personnel weapons banned by many countries ? and artillery shells that gave off a debilitating gas.

Kasit said the allegations were not true.

Cluster munitions contain dozens or hundreds of small bomblets that scatter over vast areas. Some can lie dormant for decades until disturbed, posing enormous danger to civilians.

Thailand acknowledged using cluster-type munitions in border fighting in February, but argued that they were not of the type banned from use by 108 countries under an international treaty. Thailand has not signed the pact, but has publicly pledged not to use such weapons.

The fighting comes as Thailand's military raises its profile in domestic politics ahead of general elections expected by early July. The army previously effectively vetoed a plan to station Indonesian observers to monitor the border situation.

Charlie Sheen Works Out With Georgia Tech Baseball Team Before Atlanta Show

Hours before his Atlanta show, Charlie Sheen showed up to work out with the Georgia Tech baseball team for nearly three hours.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it was arranged through a mutual friend of coach Danny Hall.

"He was very engaging, about as nice you he could be," Tech spokesman Dean Buchan told the newspaper. "He interacted with our players and coaches. I think he had a good time in the batting cage. He came close to hitting one out. He hit about six right up to the wall, but couldn't quite punch it over."

He also socialized with the crowd of about 100 people who were watching him, chatting and taking pictures, and gave a pep talk to the team that "had the players and coaching smiling and laughing," according to the newspaper.

But Sheen wasn't as big of a hit that night, according to those who attended the latest stop on his My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option tour, which was met with mixed reactions from attendees.

Twitter user Danielle Cray thought Sheen was a hit: "@charliesheen You were #winning tonight in Atlanta! Loved your show. :) #F---Detroit," she tweeted, referring to the actor's disastrous debut performance in Michigan earlier this month.

But Joshua Ross had this to say: "Just saw Charlie sheen at the fox in Atlanta. Total train wreck."

Another user named Frenchie tweeted that her brother and sister-in-law regretted having gone to see the show.
Sheen reportedly was at least a half-hour late in starting his performance.

Kirstie Alley Gets Emotional During 'DWTS' Rehearsals

Kirstie Alley Gets Emotional During 'DWTS' Rehearsals

The pressure of Dancing with the Stars is getting to Kirstie Alley. Before she and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy took to the dance floor to perform their jive on Monday night's show, a behind-the-scenes reel showed an emotional Alley breaking down after a long day of rehearsals.

"I need a break!" the 60-year-old actress yelled at her pro partner. "You scream and jump around and I'm frustrated."

According to Chmerkovskiy, 31, he pushed Alley to her limits because he feels that she's got the talent to win that mirror ball trophy.

"I don't care about her physical shape because I know she can do it," he explained.

"Maks puts a lot of pressure and expectations on me. I think that's why I like him, so I have to take it up a notch," Alley added. "I have hugely high standards for myself and so does Maks, so when I think we've pushed ourselves as hard as we can push, we push harder."

The duo eventually got it together and performed their jive for the judges, who came back with mixed reviews.

"It was fun, it was high-energy, it was playful. You're an actress so you come out and you act every dance beautifully," Len Goodman told the pair. "But as a jive, it was most uneventful as far as I was concerned. I can find very little to commend it."

Carrie Ann Inaba was also underwhelmed by the performance. "I just love you so much because you bring nothing but complete entertainment, but it wasn't quite enough of the jive," she said. "When you went side by side you went completely out of sync."

"But you are looking amazing!" Inaba told Alley, who recently revealed she's almost down to a size 6. "There is such a transformation happening with you, Kirstie."
